“Presenze” – the Giants

Four monumental figures up to nine metres tall, essential, powerful and silent. Known as ‘The Giants of Peccioli’, the Presences created by Naturaliter have become an international icon: works that have transformed a waste disposal plant and other peripheral locations into settings for contemporary art, regeneration and beauty.

The work
Created in 2011, Presenze (Presences) are statues between 5 and 9 metres tall, made of polystyrene and polyurethane foam, covered in cement fibre to ensure their durability. These stylised human figures, with their simple lines and clean shapes, emerge from the ground like silent guardians of the landscape.

Where they are located
The four sculptures are located in three key points in Peccioli:

  • Triangolo Verde, Legoli (waste disposal and treatment plant): two giants tower over the park, transforming a productive site into a cultural setting.
  • Fonte Mazzola Amphitheatre: a Presence enriches the theatre space, becoming an integral part of the events that take place there.
  • La Fila business incubator: the last statue, placed on the roof, welcomes visitors to the village from above.

The meaning
Le Presenze was born from the idea of regeneration: art that transforms, man that re-emerges, the landscape that is rewritten. The work embodies the strength of Peccioli as an open-air museum, capable of combining industry, sustainability and culture. It is proof that even the most unexpected places can become icons of identity and tourism through the power of artistic imagination.

A media icon
Since 2011, the Giants have been all over the web and in the press, appearing in numerous articles and reports.
In 2013, two sculptures were even transferred to the Teatro del Silenzio in Lajatico for a concert by Andrea Bocelli, reinforcing their scenographic aura. Today, they are one of the reasons why Peccioli is called a “contemporary art village”, attracting visitors, photographers and curious onlookers from all over Europe.
